My first Windermere Community Service Day was on Friday, June 9th! Since 1984, Windermere real estate agents dedicate one day a year to hands-on community service projects in the communities we serve. Across the nation, teams completed a variety of projects, including cleaning, landscaping, and painting at local senior citizens centers, facilities for homeless children and adults, public parks and schools, low-income housing, and emergency shelters, and more! I met with a team of real estate agents at Madison Elementary School in Riverside, California to help create a vibrant blacktop to encourage students to be active and healthy at school!
It was inspiring to give a day to serve my community. I look forward to many more days of service with Windermere Tower Properties!
In 2016, I had the opportunity to participate in Over the Edge and rappel Mount Rubidoux Manor! This event supported Habitat for Humanity Riverside, a local nonprofit who believes “every man, woman, and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety.” To participate, I was tasked to fundraise $1,000 to secure a spot to go “over the edge”.
Did I mention I am NOT a big fan of heights?
After some convincing from my wife, I agreed to this participate because I love the work Habitat for Humanity Riverside is doing. Being in real estate, I believe everyone deserves a healthy and affordable place to live. Proceeds from this event supported Habitat for Humanity Riverside’s veteran services, “empowering low-income veterans and their families by surrounding them with supportive services and giving them the opportunity to purchase a safe and affordable home or make their current home safe by upgrading or renovating it.” This included support for 26 homes in Jurupa Valley for veterans and their families.
The hardest part was the first few steps off the building, before the ropes were fully taut.
This is a once in a life time thrill, I highly recommend participating at least once!
This year’s Over the Edge event is at Riverside’s City Hall. If you are participating this year, I would be happy to contribute to your fundraising goals. Just leave a comment with the link to your fundraising page and let me know why you are going Over the Edge! For information about this event, visit www.HabitatRiverside.org/OverTheEdge
